I’ve lived in Herndon since 2002, and downtown is still my favorite part of town. So I’m especially excited to share this one with you. Today, 709 Monroe Street officially hits the market, and it’s one of the few townhomes you can walk to downtown Herndon.
A Home Built With Care
The owners had this townhome custom-built in 2017, and they made thoughtful choices from the start. It’s part of Junction Square, a boutique community of only about 20 homes tucked into the heart of historic downtown Herndon.
The home offers 4 bedrooms, 3.5 baths, and about 2,866 finished square feet across four levels, plus a 2-car garage and a private rooftop deck.
Here’s what stood out to me when I walked through:
Hardwood floors on all four levels. The owners chose uniform hardwoods throughout, so the whole home feels connected from top to bottom.
A kitchen with top-of-the-line appliances, open to the family room and dining room on the main level. It’s a great setup for hosting friends or everyday family dinners.
Plantation shutters on the main level that let in beautiful natural light.
A primary suite with a marble bath and marble shower that feels like a retreat at the end of the day.
A top-level guest suite with its own full bath and a second family room. It’s perfect for visitors or a home office.
A finished ground-floor rec room that works as an office, gym, playroom, or guest space.
A private rooftop deck overlooking the town of Herndon and the W&OD Trail.
Life in Downtown Herndon
What really makes this home special is what’s right outside the front door.
If you love to ride, you’ll be steps from Green Lizard Cycling, the downtown bike shop and café that sits right on the W&OD Trail. Grab a coffee before your ride or a local beer after. The trail runs 45 miles, east toward Reston and Arlington and west toward Leesburg and Purcellville, and the 2-car garage has plenty of room for bikes and gear.
When it’s time to eat, you can walk to local favorites like Jimmy’s Old Town Tavern for great wings. And if you haven’t had the fresh-made tres leches from the Herndon Bodega yet, consider this your sign to go. Trust me on this one!
Downtown Herndon also has a calendar full of community events. There’s the free Friday Night Live summer concert series on the Town Green, the Herndon Farmers Market, and the Herndon Festival every spring. Living here means you get small-town charm and a real sense of community, just outside the big city.
An Easy Commute in Every Direction
For anyone working in the Dulles corridor, Reston, or D.C., this location is hard to beat. You’re about 2.5 miles from the Herndon Silver Line Metro station and about 6 miles from Dulles Airport, with quick access to the Fairfax County Parkway, Route 28, Route 7, and the Dulles Toll Road.
Many of the region’s largest employers are just minutes away. Amazon Web Services, Leidos, Northrop Grumman, Lockheed Martin, Cisco, and BAE Systems all have offices in Herndon, and Google, Microsoft, Oracle, SAIC, and General Dynamics are close by in Reston.
The home is zoned for Herndon Elementary, Herndon Middle, and Herndon High School in Fairfax County Public Schools.
Why This One Is Worth a Look
Homes like this don’t come up often in downtown Herndon. Junction Square is small, and only a handful of its townhomes have sold in the last few years. Right now, there’s almost nothing else for sale in Herndon that combines a newer home, a walkable location, a 2-car garage, and a rooftop deck.
I know this floor plan well, too. I sold a home with the same model right here in Junction Square, so I can walk you through every level and answer any questions you have.
